“BCA Annual Customer User Conference”
We at BCA are excited about our
Customers’ upcoming Annual Customer
Users Conference. Early indications
are that our clients are excited as
well. We expect a record turn out in
Miami. This year the conference will be
held May 5-7, 2004. I encourage you to
make your arrangements early on. Since
our last meeting, in Mississippi,
changes in technology, healthcare
regulations and World events are
reshaping the healthcare universe.
Improvements in telecommunications speed,
capacity and reduced cost has allowed long
distance computing to become a reality.
We invite you to participate in
discussions centered around the new BCA
Data Center in Dalton, Georgia, and how
the Urban Primary Network, consisting of
Oakhurst Community Health Centers, West
End Medical Centers and Southside
Community Health Centers, combined
resources to use one central computer to
support their data processing. We
also invite you to evaluate the results of
a central data center at Jackson-Hinds
Community Health Center in Jackson,
Mississippi to support eleven (11)
internal sites and eight (8) Mallory
Community Health Center sites in Canton,
Mississippi, while offering similar
services to other community health centers
and clinics throughout the State.
Listen while those centers, also with
representative from BCA discuss the
economic and clinical benefits of shared
systems, long distance computing and out
sourcing. Participate in the
strategy sessions centered around
additional information technology
outsourcing opportunities and combined
clinical data bases such as the
computerized Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
systems.

For the past year-and-a-half
HIPPA mandates have driven significant increases
in research and development efforts in the
healthcare information technology arena.
During BCA's Customer User Conference you will
get an update on the progress BCA has made to
address HIPPA requirements for Medicare,
Medicaid and other third party healthcare payer
systems. These discussions will center on
security and confidentiality agreements, shared
liabilities and the requirements of automated
systems and databases. You will also gain
insight into the cost to develop new software
functionality and the cost to BCA Customers to
deploy this functionality throughout their
organizations. Finally, we will discuss
what we think the future opportunities and
challenges will be as a result of the new HIPPA
regulations, the emerging EMR Technology and the
Internet.
|
|
| |
Speaking of EMR systems
and the Internet...pay attention as we
discuss how technology advances and the
Internet will pay a major role in
healthcare computing going forward.
Express your opinions as we explain the
risks and rewards of taking advantage of
the expanding and maturing technology.
We will discuss why EMR's are in great
demand and threaten to change the way
healthcare is delivered throughout the
industry. Observe the challenges of
changing a culture of providing quality,
cost effective healthcare. Witness the
debate around "best practices" for data
entry, process automation, standards of
care and anticipated outcomes.
